Quang Ninh expected to open coal mine for tourism

Quang Ninh expected to open coal mine for tourism

Quang Ninh is researching and developing a new tourism product: a tour to visit coal mines, this is a bold move, promising to bring visitors unique experiences when exploring the coal mining industry, one of the symbols associated with the history and development of this land.

Besides the majestic Halong Bay or the sacred Yen Tu mountain, Quang Ninh also possesses a priceless but not fully exploited tourism resource: open-pit coal mines and underground coal mines.

The deep tunnels, stories about the miners' lives and the history of the coal industry's development promise to become attractive highlights for tourists who love to explore and experience.

Quang Ninh currently has hundreds of tunnels and many open-pit coal mines, including two mines put into operation since 1964, which are being proposed to become tourist attractions in this special tour.

If implemented, this will be a new tourism product, not only giving visitors the opportunity to learn about the work of miners but also contributing to diversifying local tourism types.

Previously, Quang Ninh had piloted taking tourists to visit the open-pit coal mine in Halong City, but this program was later discontinued. However, the need to experience this type of tourism still exists.

Many travel companies have proposed restoring and developing tours to visit coal mines, especially in Halong and Cam Pha - places with large coal reserves and unique industrial landscapes.

Opening underground mining tours not only helps promote the image of the coal industry but also opens up opportunities to develop four-season tourism for Quang Ninh.

Instead of focusing only on sea and island tourism in the summer, the province can exploit industrial tourism products in the winter, contributing to retaining tourists all year round.

Although it brings a lot of potential, the development of coal mine tourism also poses many challenges, especially the issue of safety for tourists when visiting the coal mining environment.

In addition, preserving the landscape, ensuring technical factors, as well as building an attractive experience that is still suitable for exploitation conditions are problems that need to be solved.

If properly implemented, this tour will not only help Quang Ninh have a unique tourism product but also contribute to enhancing the cultural and historical value of the coal industry, giving visitors new perspectives on this traditional mining land.
